What is the BYC?

The Backyard Caucus, Inc. is a group of community members from Elmhurst, Illinois, that came together after the murder of George Floyd in 2020. In light of heightened awareness of racial tensions and inequities throughout the country, these individuals decided to create the Backyard Caucus, Inc. to take a candid look at how we might improve understanding and race relations to foster a welcoming, equitable community for all.


What is the BYC's mission?

The BYC has set as it's mission to establish itself as a voice and force for diversity, inclusion, and equity; to educate, inform, and advocate for diversity and inclusion; and to engage for institutional change toward diversity and inclusion.

How can I get involved?

Join the conversation by attending events about inclusion & diversity, reading books on the topic, talking to your neighbors, hosting a book club on microaggressions, etc. 

We also love introducing new members to the group! It is completely free, and you can get involved by sending an email to BackyardCaucusElmhurst@gmail.com

Must I live in Elmhurst to join?

No. Although we occasionally meet in person, we have a lot of events and meetings where we connect via zoom or other virtual meeting environments. Please contact us for more information.
